CARBURIZED AND HARDENED STEEL ALLOY ROLLS
The Hi-Hard deep case carburized and hardened product is primarily made from low carbon alloy steel. Material such as 8620, 9310, 4620, 4320 are commonly used for this process. This process can achieve up to 3/8" case depth per side and hardness levels up to 65 Rc. Rolls can be made from any shape or size in solid and fabricated designs.
CASE HARDENED ROLLS
Flame and induction hardened product is primarily made from medium carbon, medium carbon alloy steel, high carbon alloy steel, iron, and stainless steel. This process can achieve up to 1/4" case depth per side and hardness levels up to 65 Rc. Rolls can be made from any shape or size in solid and fabricated designs.
THROUGH HARDENED PRODUCTS
The Hi-Hard through hardened stainless steel product is manufactured using modified 400 series stainless. The material is heat to aus tenizing temperature, air quenched, and tempered to desired hardness level (up to 60 HSD). This material is used in elevated temperature applications where the roll is exposed to severe temperature changes, wear conditions, corrosion, and impact.
Rolls manufactured from this HI-TEMP ALLOY material can be made in solid or fabrications. These rolls typically have hardness levels up to 430 BHN and are used in applications where roll is subject to high temperature material processing and an elevated temperature environment. These material offer strength, toughness, abrasion resistance, corrosion resistance, and temperature cycling properties.
Rolls manufactured for quench and tempered materials can be made as solid for fabrications. These rolls typically have hardness up to 321 BHN and offer high core mechanical properties. These products are used where high strength, toughness, and durability are of concern and wear is not a major issue.
NON HEAT TREATED ROLLS
These rolls are made as solid or fabricated rolls. Rolls can be made of any material using bar, forgings, castings, and rolled/welded plated. The items are machined, fabricated, finish ground, and dynamically balance to print specifications. These rolls are typically made for non-wear application and common as roll cores for rubber and polyurethane coverings.
HEAT TRANSFER ROLLS / CHILL ROLLS
Heat transfer rolls are fabricated and made using two components. These components include an outer shell and an internal roll core. The outer shell can be produced with a hardened or non-hardened surface. The internal roll core can be produced with a machined fluid passage, spiral welded fluid passage, or hollow internal cavity for fluid passage.
REGRINDING AND RECONDITION SERVICES
At Hi-Hard we service what we manufacture, rolls by nature will wear at some point need to be reground or reconditioned. Our roll regrind and reconditioning service provides the capabilities that will bring your rolls back to service condition. We offer a full disassembly, NDT testing, regrinding, journal repair, and machining of rolls. We can also provide as needed roll to be plated, coated, or rubber/polyurethane covered. Following the recondition the rolls have complete final inspection, dynamic balance as needed, and packaging for shipment.
TOOL STEEL ROLLS
Tool steel rolls are quench and tempered for a through hardened condition. Rolls are made using D2 or DC53 tool steel. Rolls are normally made as a solid and used in applications of high force or pressure.
HIGH TEMPERATURE ROLL APPLICATIONS
Rolls are manufactured using heat resistant alloy stainless steel and 300 series stainless. Rolls are fabricated and machined complete per customer requirements. Internal components such as cooling / venting systems or refractory will be installed as required.
CABLE/HOIST DRUM - SHEAVE PINS / BRAKE WHEELS
Cable and hoist drums are manufactured using 8620 forged steel. The drums are machined and carburized to achieve a uniform 1/8" case depth in the rung area of the drum. The units are then quench and double tempered to 60 Rc. The drum will then be fabricated and machined complete to drawing. The unit will have a through shaft installed and the gear mounted per customer requirements. Drums may also be made using other alloy steel per customer requirements. Hi-Hard also produces crane components such as sheave pins and break wheels.
